Brian
Dick Makes It Three In A Row At Munising
|
Munsing, MI
(March 1, 2010) - Brian Dick won the FXR Pro 600 class at the
USCC Munising 300 yesterday, February 28, maintaining his points lead
in the class and extending his winning streak to three. The two-day
Munising race featured mild temperatures with both days in the low
30-degree Fahrenheit range. Clouds dominated but the sun managed to
poke through from time to time. With only about three feet of snow
on the ground the race didn't get as tough as in years past, but Saturday's
conditions were a challenge as the course was at its roughest. Racers
ran a 15-mile loop that consisted of woods, ditch, powerlines and
some trails.
Attrition quickly
became the determining factor in Pro 600 results. Arctic Cat riders
Ryan Simons and Cory Davis were victims the first day as Simons was
a DNS for the Pro 600 race later in the day as a result of a crash
in Fox Racing Shox Pro Open and Davis hit a tree and folded his a-arms
back. Polaris rider Gabe Bunke's weekend proved generally problematic,
putting him well off the pace, while Corey Davidson was another rider
who never made it to the line in Pro 600. Another top rider, Aaron
Christensen, didn't make the race at all due to a bout of pneumonia.
After Day 1 Dick sat atop the charts with a time of 1:50:56.213, some
four minutes ahead of Arctic Cat rider and teammate D.J. Ekre (1:54:00.622).
Another Arctic Cat rider, Ryan Huston, sat in third (2:00:05.184).
The club groomed
some of the course between Day 1 and Day 2, but it didn't matter because
everywhere else got seriously rough. Dick has the rough course setup
dialed in and was able to maintain his Day 1 lead over Ekre, finishing
with time of 2:55:38.676 to Ekre's 3:01:48.342. Huston held onto third
place with a two-day time of 3:10:38.726. Cody Kallock (3:19:07.173),
Bill Slominski (3:22:22.512) and Chad Lian (3:24:26.436) followed
them to the line. With the win, Dick maintained his points lead over
Ekre. Dick sits in first place with 287. He is followed by Ekre (272),
Lian (250), Huston (234), Bunke (224), Kallock (219) and Christensen
(215).
Davis won the
Fox Racing Shox Pro Open race with a time of 1:15:14.988, some two
seconds ahead of Ekre (1:17:31.327). He was followed by Dick (1:21:13.451),
Kallock (1:33:00.523) and Grant Lynch (1:42:15.625).
Arctic Cat rider
Logan Christian swept the Semi-Pro classes, winning the ArcticFX Semi-Pro
600 class with a time of 2:18:57.943, besting Polaris rider Ryan Faust
(2:20:40.666) by nearly two seconds. Arctic Cat rider Ryan Greening
came in third (2:25:09.966). Christian won the AMSOIL Semi-Pro Improved
class with a time of 1:23:07.635, over a second faster than Nick Pattyn
(1:24:29.373) and almost two seconds faster than Faust (1:24:58.777).
